Legal aid, free services, lawyer referral
Hartford County Lawyer Referral
The Hartford County Bar Association offers a lawyer referral service by telephone or email for a nominal fee, which includes an initial consultation with a lawyer. The referral fee is waived for personal injury, workers' compensation, and Social Security disability matters. This service is available to residents of Hartford, Litchfield, Middlesex, Tolland, and Windham Counties.
Connecticut Victim Services
The Connecticut Office of Victim Services provides crime victims with information about victims' rights and the criminal justice process, court accompaniment, case status notification, advocacy, referrals, and assistance with victims' compensation, restitution, victim impact statements, and return of property. Links to additional service providers and online information are included.
Connecticut Public Defenders
The Division of Public Defender Services provides free or low-cost criminal defense services to indigent defendants facing possible incarceration, to indigent parents and juveniles in some family matters, and to indigent parties facing involuntary mental health commitments.
